Toro de Osborne
SymbolAbout
The Toro de Osborne, or Osborne Bull, is a prominent symbol associated with Spain, although it originated as an advertising logo for Osborne's Veterano Brandy. Designed by Manolo Prieto in 1956, the first wooden signs were erected in 1957. Over time, they were replaced with metal versions to withstand weather conditions, reaching heights of 14 meters. Initially intended to promote brandy, these bulls have become cultural icons, often appearing on souvenirs and national symbols. Today, there are about 90 Osborne Bulls across Spain, recognized for their cultural significance. Despite legal challenges to remove them as advertisements, they were preserved due to public support and their integration into the landscape. The Osborne Bull represents more than just a brand; it has become a recognizable emblem of Spanish culture, featured in various contexts beyond its original purpose.
