1957 Chevrolet Corvette Fuel-Injected
VehicleAbout
The 1957 Chevrolet Corvette Fuel-Injected is a landmark vehicle in automotive history, marking the first time a Corvette was equipped with fuel injection. This technology, known as the Ramjet Fuel Injection system, was developed by Rochester and provided significant performance enhancements. The system featured a continuous spray method, eliminating the need for carburetors and offering improved fuel efficiency, smoother engine operation, and enhanced low-speed torque. The fuel-injected Corvette could achieve 283 horsepower, a milestone of one horsepower per cubic inch, making it a formidable competitor on both the road and the track. This Corvette model was available with a four-speed manual transmission, which became an option midway through 1957. The vehicle's styling remained largely unchanged from previous models, but its performance capabilities were vastly improved. Only 1,040 fuel-injected Corvettes were produced, making them highly sought after by collectors today. The 1957 Corvette's racing heritage is notable, with versions like the RPO 579E "Cold Air" package, which was designed for competitive racing. Despite reliability issues with the fuel injection system, the 1957 Corvette remains an iconic model in the history of American sports cars.
