Abhinav Bindra is an Indian former sport shooter and businessman, born on September 28, 1982, in Dehradun, India. He is renowned for being the first Indian to win an individual Olympic gold medal, which he achieved in the men's 10-meter air rifle event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Bindra's journey in shooting began in his mid-teens, and he quickly rose through the ranks, competing in several international events, including the Commonwealth Games and the ISSF World Championships. Bindra's achievements extend beyond his Olympic victory. He won multiple medals at the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. He received the Padma Bhushan in 2009 and the ISSF Blue Cross in 2018. After retiring from shooting in 2016, Bindra has been involved in various entrepreneurial ventures, including the Abhinav Bindra Foundation, which aims to integrate sports, science, and technology in India. He has also served on the IOC Athletes' Commission and has been a significant figure in promoting sports development in India.
