Alan Alda, born Alphonso Joseph D'Abruzzo on January 28, 1936, in New York City, is a renowned American actor, director, and screenwriter. He is best known for his iconic role as Captain Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce in the hit CBS series MASH (1972–1983), for which he won numerous awards, including multiple Emmy Awards. Alda's versatility extends beyond acting; he also wrote and directed several episodes of MASH. Alda's career spans television, film, and theater. He has appeared in notable films like The Aviator (2004), Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989), and Bridge of Spies (2015). His work on Broadway includes performances in The Apple Tree and Glengarry Glen Ross.
