Albert Boni was a pioneering publisher born on October 21, 1892, in New York City. He attended Cornell and Harvard universities before leaving to pursue a career in publishing. Alongside his brother Charles, Boni co-founded the Washington Square Bookshop in 1913, a hub for leftist intellectuals and writers in Greenwich Village. The brothers also launched the Little Leather Library, which published compact, affordable editions of literary classics. Boni co-founded Boni & Liveright in 1917, a publishing house that introduced the Modern Library series, featuring works by notable authors. After selling his stake in Boni & Liveright, Boni continued to innovate with the Albert and Charles Boni Publishing Company and later founded the Readex Microprint Corporation. His contributions to publishing and technology made him a significant figure in American literary history. Boni passed away on July 31, 1981, leaving a legacy of accessible literature and innovative publishing techniques.
