Alberto Salazar is a renowned American track coach and former long-distance runner. Born in Havana, Cuba, on August 7, 1958, he immigrated to the United States with his family at a young age. Salazar excelled in track and field during his high school years in Wayland, Massachusetts, setting multiple records. He continued his success at the University of Oregon, later winning three consecutive New York City Marathons and the 1982 Boston Marathon in the famous "Duel in the Sun." As a coach, Salazar led the Nike Oregon Project, mentoring athletes like Mo Farah and Galen Rupp to Olympic and world championships. However, his career was marred by controversy, including a four-year doping ban in 2019 and a lifetime ban for misconduct in 2021.
