Altyn Dala Conservation Initiative
Conservation projectAbout
The Altyn Dala Conservation Initiative is a collaborative effort aimed at restoring and protecting the steppe and semi-desert ecosystems in Kazakhstan. Established in 2005, it focuses on conserving biodiversity within the historic range of the critically endangered saiga antelope. The initiative involves restoring habitats that support a wide range of wildlife, including migratory birds and other threatened species. It works to address environmental challenges such as overgrazing, land conversion, and climate change. The initiative is a partnership between national and international organizations, including the Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity of Kazakhstan, Fauna & Flora International, and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. It involves habitat protection, species research, and community engagement to ensure sustainable ecosystems. The project also supports the reintroduction of species like Przewalski's horse and the Turkmenian kulan. By engaging local communities and using advanced conservation methods, Altyn Dala aims to safeguard Kazakhstan's unique natural heritage.
