ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate)
MaterialAbout
Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate (ASA) is a thermoplastic material that shares similarities with Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) but offers superior UV resistance. This property makes ASA particularly suitable for outdoor applications where exposure to sunlight is a concern. ASA is composed of a copolymer blend of acrylic rubber, acrylonitrile, and styrene, providing it with enhanced weatherability and resistance to aging and yellowing. ASA is known for its high impact resistance, good chemical resistance, and higher heat deflection temperature compared to ABS. It is commonly used in the automotive and marine industries for parts that require durability and weather resistance. Despite its advantages, ASA is generally more expensive than ABS and requires higher extruder temperatures for 3D printing. Its applications extend to outdoor electronics housings and exterior signage, where its resistance to environmental stressors is beneficial.
