Aung San Suu Kyi
PersonAung San Suu Kyi is a prominent Burmese politician and Nobel Peace Prize laureate who has dedicated her life to the pursuit of democracy and human rights in Myanmar. Born on June 19, 1945, in Rangoon, Burma, she is the daughter of Aung San, the national hero who led the country to independence from British colonial rule. Suu Kyi's early life was marked by tragedy, as her father was assassinated just a year after independence. Despite this, she was raised with a strong sense of social responsibility and a commitment to public service. Throughout her career, Suu Kyi has been a vocal advocate for democracy, human rights, and national reconciliation in Myanmar. She played a key role in the 1988 democratic uprising, which led to the establishment of the National League for Democracy (NLD) party. In 1990, the NLD won a landslide victory in the general elections, but the military junta refused to recognize the results, leading to years of political repression and Suu Kyi's house arrest. Despite these challenges, she continued to speak out against the regime and inspire her countrymen to fight for their rights. In 2016, she became the State Counsellor of Myanmar, a position she held until her military coup in 2021.
