Blue Sky Studios
Animation studioAbout
Blue Sky Studios was a pioneering American animation studio, active from 1987 to 2021. Founded by Chris Wedge, Michael Ferraro, Carl Ludwig, Alison Brown, David Brown, and Eugene Troubetzkoy, it emerged from the closure of MAGI, a visual effects company involved in films like Tron. Initially, Blue Sky focused on creating visual effects for commercials and films, producing notable work for clients like M&Ms and MTV. Their early success included the Academy Award-winning short film Bunny in 1998. Blue Sky transitioned into feature film production with Ice Age in 2002, followed by successful franchises like Rio and The Peanuts Movie. The studio was known for its unique production style and diverse filmography. It was acquired by 20th Century Fox and later by Disney as part of the 21st Century Fox acquisition. Disney closed the studio in April 2021 due to economic challenges. Despite its closure, Blue Sky's legacy remains significant in the animation industry, particularly through its memorable characters and impactful storytelling.
