Brawn BGP 001

Formula one car

About

The Brawn BGP 001 is a Formula One car that made history in the 2009 season. It was the first and only car designed by Brawn GP, which emerged after Honda Racing's withdrawal from the sport. The BGP 001 featured a moulded carbon fiber and honeycomb composite monocoque chassis, powered by a Mercedes-Benz FO108W V8 engine. It had a length of 4,700 mm, a width of 1,800 mm, and a height of 950 mm, with a minimum weight of 605 kg. The car's innovative design included a double diffuser, which significantly increased downforce by exploiting a loophole in the regulations. The double diffuser was a key factor in the BGP 001's success, allowing it to dominate the early races of the 2009 season. Despite protests from other teams, the FIA declared the design legal. The car's performance was also supported by its reliable design and the skilled driving of Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello. Brawn GP went on to win both the drivers' and constructors' championships that year. The BGP 001's legacy is marked by its innovative aerodynamics and its role in one of the most dramatic seasons in Formula One history.
