Brown Recluse Spider (Loxosceles reclusa) The brown recluse spider, or fiddle-back spider, is found in the central and southern United States. It is light brown with a violin-shaped mark on its cephalothorax and has six eyes. They are shy and only bite when they feel threatened. Its venom is dermonecrotic, destroying tissues and causing severe skin lesions that take months to heal. It is rarely fatal, but the bite is very painful.
