Burghley Horse Trials
EventAbout
The Burghley Horse Trials is a prestigious five-star Concours Complet International (CCI) event held annually in early September at Burghley House in Lincolnshire, England. It is one of the world's most renowned equestrian competitions, attracting top riders and horses globally. The event tests the all-round ability of horse and rider through three disciplines: dressage, cross-country, and show jumping. The competition spans five days, starting with a trot-up on Wednesday, followed by dressage on Thursday and Friday, cross-country on Saturday, and show jumping on Sunday. Burghley has a rich history, having been continuously run since 1961. It has hosted numerous championships, including six FEI European Championships and two World Championships. The event features challenging courses, especially the cross-country phase, which demands bravery, fitness, and trust between horse and rider. Beyond competition, Burghley offers activities like walking the cross-country course and attending the Burghley Young Event Horse final. The event also supports notable charities and features a large shopping village with over 500 tradestands.
