Carl Osburn was a renowned American sport shooter and naval officer, born on May 5, 1884, in Jacksontown, Ohio. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1906 and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy, eventually reaching the rank of Commander. Osburn's military career included assignments on several ships and participation in significant naval operations. He is also notable for his Olympic achievements, competing in the 1912, 1920, and 1924 Summer Olympics. Osburn's Olympic career was marked by exceptional success, earning him a total of eleven medals: five gold, four silver, and two bronze. He remains one of the most successful shooters in Olympic history. Besides his Olympic achievements, Osburn participated in international competitions such as the World Championships. After World War II, he settled in St. Helena, California, where he passed away on December 28, 1966. His legacy extends beyond his shooting career, as he was inducted into the USA Shooting Hall of Fame in 1994.
