China - Great Wall of China
Historical siteAbout
The Great Wall of China is a historical series of fortifications built across several Chinese dynasties. It began with the construction of individual walls by various states during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods. These were later connected by Qin Shi Huang in the 3rd century BC to protect his empire from nomadic invasions. The wall stretches from the eastern coast to the western frontier, covering a vast distance. The most well-known and preserved sections of the Great Wall were built during the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), which constructed the wall in stone and brick. It served not only as a defense system but also as a means of border control and trade regulation. The wall is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, reflecting its historical and architectural significance.
