Confederate Motorcycles
CompanyAbout
Confederate Motorcycles was a pioneering American manufacturer known for its high-performance, handcrafted motorcycles. Founded in 1991 by H. Matthew Chambers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the company aimed to embody American craftsmanship and innovation. Confederate's designs often drew inspiration from mid-century aesthetics, blending aluminum and steel to create unique motorcycles. Models like the Hellcat, Wraith, and P51 Combat Fighter were celebrated for their bold designs and exceptional performance. The company faced significant challenges, including bankruptcy in 2001 and the devastating impact of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, which forced a relocation to Birmingham, Alabama. Despite these setbacks, Confederate continued to innovate, eventually rebranding as Curtiss Motorcycles in 2017 to focus on electric models. Meanwhile, the Confederate brand's intellectual property was acquired by Combat Motors, which continues to produce high-performance motorcycles under a new name. Throughout its history, Confederate Motorcycles maintained a reputation for creating exceptional, limited-production bikes that captured the essence of American craftsmanship.
