Cool & The Gang Kool & the Gang is an American R&B, soul, and funk band formed in Jersey City, New Jersey, in 1964. The founding members include Robert "Kool" Bell, Ronald Bell, Dennis "Dee Tee" Thomas, Robert "Spike" Mickens, Charles Smith, George Brown, Woodrow "Woody" Sparrow, and Ricky Westfield. Initially performing as an instrumental jazz and soul group called the Jazziacs, they later adopted the name Kool & the Gang. Their music style evolved over time, incorporating jazz, rock, pop, and disco elements. The band achieved mainstream success with albums like Wild and Peaceful (1973), Ladies' Night (1979), and Celebrate! (1980), featuring hits like "Jungle Boogie," "Celebration," and "Get Down on It." With the addition of James "J.T." Taylor and producer Eumir Deodato, they shifted towards a more pop-oriented sound. Kool & the Gang remains active, performing worldwide and celebrating their legacy as one of the most influential funk and pop bands of the 1970s and 1980s. Their music continues to be timeless and enjoyed by generations.
