David Gilmour's Black Strat is a legendary Fender Stratocaster that has been integral to Pink Floyd's iconic sound. Purchased in 1970 from Manny's Music in New York, this 1969 model was originally a sunburst Strat that had been repainted black. Over the years, it underwent numerous modifications, including multiple neck changes and pickup swaps, to enhance its tone and playability. The Black Strat was featured prominently in Pink Floyd's most influential albums, such as The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and The Wall. It was also used in Gilmour's solo work and has been a part of several historic performances, including the Live 8 reunion. Despite its extensive modifications, the guitar retains its original body and has become an enduring symbol of Gilmour's musical legacy. In 2019, it was auctioned for charity, becoming one of the most expensive guitars ever sold.
