David Simon is an American journalist, writer, and producer, born on February 9, 1960, in Washington, D.C. He gained prominence as the creator of the critically acclaimed HBO series The Wire (2002–2008). Simon's career began in journalism, working for The Baltimore Sun from 1982 to 1995, where he covered the police beat. His experiences during this period led to his first book, Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets (1991), which was adapted into the TV series Homicide: Life on the Street (1993–1999). Simon's work often explores social and economic issues in urban settings. He co-authored The Corner: A Year in the Life of an Inner-City Neighborhood (1997) with Ed Burns, which was adapted into an HBO miniseries. Simon has also produced Generation Kill (2008), Treme (2010–2013), Show Me a Hero (2015), The Deuce (2017–2019), and We Own This City (2022). His projects are known for their realism and societal critique, reflecting his deep understanding of urban life and its complexities.
