Donato Gama da Silva Donato Gama da Silva, known simply as Donato, is a Brazilian former professional footballer born on December 30, 1962, in Rio de Janeiro. He began his career with America Football Club and later played for CR Vasco da Gama, where he won three Brazilian titles. Donato moved to Spain, playing for Atlético Madrid from 1988 to 1993 before joining Deportivo La Coruña, where he spent the majority of his career, winning the La Liga championship in 2000 and the Copa del Rey in 2002. Donato is notable for his versatility, starting as a midfielder and transitioning to a central defender. He holds the record for the most La Liga appearances by a non-Spanish player with 466 games. Donato also represented the Spanish national team from 1994 to 1996, participating in Euro 1996. After retiring, he pursued a career in coaching, managing Montañeros CF and Viveiro. Donato is remembered for his strong yet technical playing style, which allowed him to both defend and contribute to his team's offense effectively.
