Dorsey's First Tweet

Historical event

About

Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, sent the first tweet on March 21, 2006. The message, "just setting up my twttr," marked the beginning of a new era in social media. This tweet was part of a project initially code-named "twttr," which aimed to share short messages via SMS text messaging with a small group. The concept evolved from a brainstorming session at the podcasting company Odeo. The first tweet is now a piece of digital history, having been sold as an NFT for $2.9 million in March 2021. However, in a subsequent resale attempt, it attracted much less interest, with the highest bid being only $280. Despite this, the tweet remains significant as it symbolizes the origins of Twitter, which was later released to the public in July 2006 and gained popularity at the South by Southwest Interactive conference in 2007.
