About

Duct tape, originally known as "duck tape," was first developed during World War II by Johnson & Johnson's Permacel division. Initially, it was used by the military to seal ammunition cases and keep moisture out, thanks to its waterproof properties. The tape was made from a fabric backing, often cotton duck cloth, with a rubber-based adhesive. Soldiers found it versatile, using it for repairs on vehicles and equipment. After the war, duct tape transitioned to civilian use, becoming popular for sealing heating and air conditioning ducts, which led to its name change. Today, it is a household staple used for repairs, DIY projects, and even art. Duct tape is composed of three layers: a plastic top layer, a fabric mesh middle, and a rubber-based adhesive bottom. Its versatility and strength have made it an essential tool in many contexts, from emergency situations to creative endeavors.
