Emeril John Lagasse III is a renowned American chef, restaurateur, television personality, and cookbook author. Born on October 15, 1959, in Fall River, Massachusetts, he has Portuguese heritage from his mother and French from his father. Lagasse initially pursued music but instead enrolled in Johnson & Wales University to study culinary arts. He graduated in 1978 and later honed his skills in France. His career took off when he became the executive chef at Commander's Palace in New Orleans, succeeding Paul Prudhomme. In 1990, he opened his first restaurant, Emeril's, which gained national recognition. Lagasse is celebrated for his "New New Orleans" style, blending local ingredients with diverse culinary influences. He has hosted numerous TV shows, including "Emeril Live" and "Essence of Emeril," and is known for his catchphrases "Bam!" and "Kick it up a notch!" His restaurants have received multiple awards, and he has written several best-selling cookbooks. Lagasse is also involved in philanthropy through the Emeril Lagasse Foundation, supporting culinary education for children. As of 2023, he serves as the Chief Culinary Officer for Carnival Cruise Lines, further expanding his culinary influence.
