Forsen Vind Farm
LocationAbout
Fosen Vind is a significant wind farm located in Central Norway, specifically in the Trøndelag county. It comprises six wind farms: Roan, Kvenndalsfjellet, Hitra 2, Harbaksjellet, Geitfjellet, and Storheia. Initially, the project had a combined capacity of 1,057 MW, making it Europe's largest onshore wind power project. After the sale of the Roan wind farm, the remaining five farms have an installed capacity of 801 MW. The wind farms are situated in the Fosen peninsula, Hitra, and Snillfjord, areas known for excellent wind conditions. The project was developed by a joint venture involving Statkraft, Nordic Wind Power, and Aneo. Construction began in 2016 and was completed by 2020. The wind farm generates approximately 2.6 TWh of electricity annually, contributing substantially to Norway's renewable energy mix. The turbines used are primarily Vestas models, with the majority being V117-3.45MW turbines.
