Frank Shorter is a renowned American distance runner, born on October 31, 1947, in Munich, Germany. He is best known for his achievements in the marathon, particularly winning the gold medal at the 1972 Munich Olympics and the silver medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. Shorter's success was instrumental in sparking the running boom in the United States during the 1970s. He attended Yale University, where he won the NCAA six-mile title in 1969, and later earned a law degree from the University of Florida in 1974. Shorter's legacy extends beyond his Olympic medals. He is a four-time winner of the prestigious Fukuoka Marathon and holds multiple national championships in the 10,000 meters. After his competitive career, Shorter became a sports commentator and advocate against doping, serving as chairman of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency from 2001 to 2003.
