Ginny Thrasher is an American sports shooter born on February 28, 1997, in Rome, New York. She gained international recognition by winning the first gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in the women's 10-meter air rifle event. This achievement was remarkable as it was her first major international competition. Thrasher's journey into shooting began after a hunting trip with her grandfather, which led her to join her high school's air rifle team. Thrasher attended West Virginia University, where she was part of the Mountaineers rifle team from 2015 to 2019. During her college career, she earned numerous accolades, including NCAA individual and team titles. She graduated summa cum laude with a degree in biomedical engineering in 2019. Thrasher's interests extend beyond shooting to include ice skating, reading, hunting, and traveling. She currently serves on the athlete advisory team for Country Roads Trust, helping student-athletes monetize their name, image, and likeness.
