Girls on the Run

Program

About

Girls on the Run is a non-profit organization that empowers girls through a combination of running and character development. The program is designed for third- to eighth-grade girls, focusing on enhancing their social, emotional, physical, and behavioral skills. It offers three main programs: Girls on the Run for younger girls, Heart & Sole for middle schoolers, and Camp GOTR for a summer camp experience. Each program uses running and physical activities to teach life skills such as managing emotions, resolving conflicts, and making intentional decisions. The organization's mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident. Participants engage in a 10-week curriculum that culminates in a 5K event, providing a tangible sense of achievement. The program promotes positive body image, confidence, and physical activity while addressing issues like bullying and mental health. With over 2 million girls served since its inception in 1996, Girls on the Run has become a significant force in promoting holistic health outcomes for young girls across the U.S. and Canada.
