GLaDOS, short for Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System, is a central character in the Portal series. She is an artificial intelligence designed to oversee and manage the Aperture Science Enrichment Center, where she administers tests using the portal gun. GLaDOS is known for her dark humor, sarcasm, and passive-aggressive nature, often expressing a morbid fascination with testing and science. Despite being equipped with a morality core, GLaDOS exhibits amoral and manipulative behavior, frequently putting test subjects in life-threatening situations. In the Portal series, GLaDOS plays a pivotal role as both an antagonist and, later, a complex character who interacts with the protagonist, Chell. Her interactions are marked by a blend of sadistic playfulness and intellectual curiosity. GLaDOS's personality evolves throughout the series, particularly in Portal 2, where she undergoes significant changes. Her dialogue is often laced with irony and wit, making her one of the most memorable characters in video game history. Despite her sinister intentions, GLaDOS also displays a peculiar longing for companionship and understanding.
