Hayley Wickenheiser is a renowned Canadian former ice hockey player, physician, and assistant general manager for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Born on August 12, 1978, in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, she began playing hockey at a young age, initially on boys' teams until she was 13. Wickenheiser's career with the Canadian Women's National Team spanned 23 years, during which she won four Olympic gold medals and one silver, along with seven World Championship titles. Wickenheiser is celebrated for her numerous achievements, including being the all-time leading scorer for Canada's National Women's Team. She also competed in softball at the 2000 Summer Olympics. After retiring from hockey in 2017, Wickenheiser pursued a career in medicine, graduating from the University of Calgary's medical school in 2021. She was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2019 and holds several prestigious honors, including being appointed to the Order of Canada.
