Helen Richardson-Walsh is a renowned British field hockey midfielder. Born on September 23, 1981, in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, she began her international career in 1999 at the age of 17. She became the youngest female hockey player to represent Great Britain at the Olympics in Sydney in 2000. Over her 17-year international career, Richardson-Walsh competed in four Olympic Games, winning a bronze medal at London 2012 and a gold medal at Rio 2016. She was part of the team that made history as the first same-sex married couple to win an Olympic medal together, alongside her wife Kate Richardson-Walsh. Richardson-Walsh's career highlights include an Olympic gold, a European Championship title, and numerous Commonwealth medals. Despite facing significant injuries, including back and ankle surgeries, she demonstrated remarkable resilience, returning to the team and contributing to their success. Richardson-Walsh has been recognized globally, shortlisted for the World Player of the Year Award and named in the FIH World All Stars Team multiple times. She has also completed a degree in psychology and works as a Performance Psychologist for Tottenham Hotspur Women. Her achievements have earned her an MBE for services to hockey.
