Ardern studied at the University of Waikato, graduating with a Bachelor of Communication Studies. She began her career as a researcher for Prime Minister Helen Clark and later worked as a policy advisor to British Prime Minister Tony Blair. In 2008, she became a Member of Parliament and was elected president of the International Union of Socialist Youth. Ardern became Labour Party leader in 2017 and was sworn in as Prime Minister at age 37, making her the youngest leader in over 150 years. She is renowned for her compassionate leadership, particularly during crises like the Christchurch mosque shootings and the COVID-19 pandemic. Her government implemented significant reforms, including gun law changes and COVID-19 management strategies.
