José María Aznar is a prominent Spanish politician, born in Madrid in 1953. He studied law at the Complutense University of Madrid and joined the State Finance Inspectors Corps in 1976. Aznar's political career began with Alianza Popular in 1979, and he became a Member of Parliament in 1982. He led the Junta of Castile and León from 1987 to 1989 and became the Leader of the Opposition from 1989 to 1996. In 1996, he was elected Prime Minister of Spain, a position he held until 2004. Aznar implemented significant economic reforms, including privatization and liberalization policies. During his tenure, Spain's economy grew substantially, and the country met the criteria to join the eurozone. He also focused on international cooperation, particularly with the European Union and the United States. Aznar is known for his strong stance against terrorism and has been involved in various international organizations. After leaving office, he became Honorary Chairman of the Partido Popular and has held roles in several global institutions.
