Justin Amash is an American lawyer and politician born on April 18, 1980, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was raised in Kentwood and holds Palestinian and Syrian ancestry. Amash graduated with honors from the University of Michigan, earning a Bachelor's degree in Economics and a Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School. Before entering Congress, he served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2011. In 2010, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for Michigan's 3rd congressional district, a position he held until 2021. Amash initially aligned with the Republican Party but became an Independent in 2019 and later joined the Libertarian Party in 2020. He is known for his advocacy of constitutional rights and transparency. Amash chaired the Liberty Caucus and was the first Libertarian to hold a seat in Congress. He gained national attention for being the first Republican congressman to call for Donald Trump's impeachment. Amash is married to Kara Day, and they have three children. He has been recognized for his innovative use of social media to engage with constituents and promote transparency in government.
