Radio station

About

KNX is one of the oldest radio stations in the United States, founded on September 10, 1920. Initially, it was assigned the call letters KGC and later changed to KNX on May 4, 1922. KNX has a rich history, having been purchased by CBS in 1936, which marked a significant shift in its operations. The station became a flagship for CBS's West Coast network and featured notable personalities like Jack Benny and Bing Crosby. Over the years, KNX underwent several frequency changes, settling on 1070 kHz in 1941. In 1968, KNX transitioned to an all-news format, setting a precedent for modern news radio. This format change contributed to its success as one of the top news stations in the country. KNX is currently owned by Entercom, following a merger with CBS Radio in 2017. The station continues to broadcast news on both AM and FM frequencies, maintaining its position as a leading news source in the Los Angeles area. KNX's legacy reflects its adaptability and commitment to providing quality news programming.
