Larry Bird is an American basketball legend born on December 7, 1956, in West Baden, Indiana. He grew up in French Lick, Indiana, and attended Indiana State University, where he led the basketball team to the NCAA championship game in 1979. Bird's collegiate career was marked by numerous records, including being a two-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and winning the Naismith and John Wooden Awards in 1979[1][3]. Bird's professional career with the Boston Celtics from 1980 to 1992 was highly successful, with three NBA championships and three MVP awards. He was a 12-time NBA All-Star and is known for his rivalry with Magic Johnson, which helped popularize the NBA. Bird also won a gold medal with the "Dream Team" at the 1992 Olympics. After retiring, he became the head coach of the Indiana Pacers and later their president of basketball operations[2][3].
