
László Hammerl

László Hammerl was a renowned Hungarian sport shooter, born on February 15, 1942, in Budapest. He achieved significant success in his career, particularly at the Olympic Games. Hammerl won a gold medal in the 50-meter rifle prone event at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Additionally, he secured a bronze medal in the same games for the 50-meter rifle three positions event. His Olympic achievements continued with a silver medal in the 50-meter rifle prone event at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. Hammerl's involvement in international competitions spanned several Olympics, including the 1968, 1972, and 1976 Games. He was affiliated with Magyar Honvédelmi Szövetség KLK and Újpesti Dózsa Sportegyesület. In 2004, he was honored as one of Hungary's original dozen Athletes of the Nation. Hammerl was married to Éva Fórián and passed away on May 3, 2024, at the age of 82. Despite the initial mention of three Olympic gold medals, his actual Olympic medal count includes one gold, one silver, and one bronze.
