Little Tobago Island

Island

About

Little Tobago Island, also known as Bird of Paradise Island, is a small, rugged island located off the north-eastern coast of Tobago. It is renowned for its exceptional birdwatching opportunities, hosting significant seabird colonies including red-billed tropicbirds, brown boobies, and magnificent frigatebirds. The island's dry forest environment supports a variety of native and migratory birds, making it an Important Bird Area. The island has a historical past as a cotton plantation and later as a bird sanctuary established by Sir William Ingram. Today, it remains uninhabited and protected, offering visitors a chance to explore its natural beauty via guided tours. The surrounding waters are popular for snorkeling and diving, especially at nearby Angel Reef. With no permanent facilities, visitors must bring necessary supplies and follow eco-friendly practices to preserve the island's unique ecosystem.
