Live 8
Concert seriesLive 8 was a series of free concerts held on July 2, 2005, across ten cities worldwide, including London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Philadelphia, Barrie, Cornwall, Johannesburg, Moscow, and Chiba. The event was organized by Bob Geldof to raise awareness about poverty in Africa and to pressure the G8 nations to increase aid. It featured over 1,000 musicians and was broadcast on 182 television networks and 2,000 radio stations. Key performers included Madonna, U2, Coldplay, and Pink Floyd. The concerts were part of the "Make Poverty History" campaign and aimed to influence the G8 summit held shortly after. An additional concert, "Edinburgh 50,000 – The Final Push," took place on July 6. The event culminated in the G8 leaders pledging to double aid to Africa by 2010. Live 8 was a follow-up to the historic Live Aid concert of 1985, and it successfully brought global attention to African issues like poverty and AIDS. The event highlighted the power of music in advocating for social change and mobilizing public support for global causes.
