Loi Krathong

Event

About

Ley Krathong is a mesmerizing and sacred event in Thai culture, celebrated annually on the full moon day of the 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar. This enchanting festival is a time for people to come together and pay homage to the Buddha, as well as to release their worries and negative thoughts into the water. The event takes place in various locations across Thailand, with the most popular being the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok and the Mekong River in Chiang Mai. As the sun sets, people gather at the riverside, each carrying a krathong, a beautifully crafted floating decoration made from banana leaves, flowers, and candles. The krathongs are then gently pushed into the water, symbolizing the release of one's burdens and negative emotions. The atmosphere is filled with the soft glow of candles, the sweet scent of incense, and the gentle lapping of the water against the shore. As the krathongs float away, they are believed to carry the worries and troubles of the past year, making way for a brighter and more peaceful future.
