Born on May 28, 1922, to Italian immigrant parents, Duva grew up in poverty but found solace in boxing. He began his career as an amateur boxer at 13, participating in bar-room fights. Although he wasn't a successful professional boxer, Duva's passion for the sport led him to become a prominent trainer and promoter. Duva is best known for his work with notable fighters like Evander Holyfield and Pernell Whitaker. He handled 19 world champions throughout his career and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1998. Duva co-founded Main Events, a successful promotional company, and was recognized as "Manager of the Year" in 1985. His tenacity and motivational skills made him a respected figure in the boxing world. Duva passed away on March 8, 2017, at the age of 94, leaving behind a legacy as one of boxing's most dedicated professionals.
