About

The Maine Lobster Festival is a five-day celebration held annually in Rockland, Maine, during the first weekend of August. It began in 1947 as a way to revive community morale and support local lobstermen by creating a market for their soft-shell lobsters. Over the years, it has evolved into an internationally recognized event, attracting tens of thousands of visitors from around the world. The festival features a wide array of lobster dishes, live music performances, and various activities for all ages. Key attractions include the Grand Parade, a Seafood Cooking Contest, and the coronation of the Maine Sea Goddess. The festival also offers carnival rides, a Marine Experience Tent, and local artisans' crafts. With more than 1,300 volunteers involved, the event is run as a non-profit, donating proceeds to local communities and supporting the lobster industry. Visitors can enjoy fresh lobster under the Maine Eating Tent while taking in the scenic views of Penobscot Bay.
