Mark Seliger is a renowned American photographer, celebrated for his iconic portraits of celebrities and musicians. Born on May 23, 1959, in Amarillo, Texas, Seliger's early life was marked by a move to Houston in 1964. He developed an interest in photography at a young age, influenced by his brother and classes at a Jewish Community Center. Seliger attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston and later studied at East Texas State University. His career took off when he moved to New York City in 1984, where he began assisting various photographers before starting his own practice. Seliger's career highlights include serving as the Chief Photographer for Rolling Stone from 1992 to 2002, capturing over 188 covers. He has also worked extensively with Condé Nast Publications for GQ and Vanity Fair. His photographs are part of the permanent collections at the National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian Institution and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. Seliger has published several books, including "When They Came to Take My Father" and "On Christopher Street: Transgender Stories." He is also known for his advertising work with major brands like Adidas and Netflix, and leads the country band Rusty Truck.
