Martín Berasategui is a renowned Spanish chef, celebrated for his mastery of Basque cuisine. Born in San Sebastián in 1960, he began his culinary journey at the age of 14 in his family's restaurant, Bodegón Alejandro. Berasategui's early training included periods in France, where he honed his skills in pastry-making and haute cuisine. By 20, he took over his family's restaurant and earned his first Michelin star by 25. Berasategui's eponymous restaurant in Lasarte-Oria, opened in 1993, was awarded three Michelin stars in 2001. He currently holds 11 Michelin stars across several restaurants, including Lasarte in Barcelona and M.B. in Tenerife. Known for emphasizing teamwork and using local ingredients, Berasategui has received numerous awards, including an honorary doctorate and the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts. His culinary influence extends globally, with restaurants in Spain, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico.
