Masseto is a celebrated Tuscan vineyard located in Bolgheri, renowned for producing exceptional Merlot wines. It is part of the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia estate and is classified as IGT Toscana. The vineyard spans 6.6 hectares and was initially identified by André Tchelistcheff for its potential due to its unique terroir, featuring compact clay soils. This composition allows Merlot grapes to develop an intense and complex profile. Masseto is known for its meticulous winemaking process, including hand-harvesting and precise grape selection. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged in French oak barrels, enhancing its texture and depth. With limited production of around 35,000 bottles annually, Masseto is highly regarded for its aromatic complexity and robust tannins, making it a prized collector's item. Its legacy as a Super Tuscan wine has significantly influenced Italian viticulture, earning it a place among the world's finest wines.
