Matterhorn

The Matterhorn is an iconic pyramidal peak located in the Swiss Alps, standing at 4,478 meters high. It is situated on the border between Switzerland and Italy, dominating the Swiss village of Zermatt and the Italian resort of Breuil-Cervinia. The mountain's distinctive shape, resembling an Egyptian pyramid, makes it one of the most photographed and recognizable landmarks in the world. Its four steep faces rise above massive glaciers, facing the four compass points. The Matterhorn is renowned for its challenging climbs and breathtaking views. The first ascent was achieved in 1865 by Edward Whymper, marking the beginning of its legendary status among mountaineers. Climbing routes include the Hörnli Ridge, which is the most common ascent path. Despite its allure, the Matterhorn poses significant risks, with over 500 recorded fatalities.
