Mayim Bialik is an American actress and neuroscientist born on December 12, 1975, in San Diego, California. She rose to fame as a child star, playing the title role in the NBC sitcom Blossom from 1990 to 1995. Bialik's early life was marked by her Jewish upbringing and her family's immigrant background. Her parents, Beverly and Barry Bialik, were first-generation Jewish-Americans who raised her in Reform Judaism. After Blossom, she pursued higher education at UCLA, earning a Bachelor of Science in neuroscience in 2000 and a Ph.D. in neuroscience in 2007. Her dissertation focused on hypothalamic regulation in Prader-Willi syndrome. Bialik's return to acting led to her iconic role as neurobiologist Amy Farrah Fowler in The Big Bang Theory from 2010 to 2019.
