Merlene Ottey Merlene Ottey, born in 1960, is the most decorated Jamaican athlete in history. Throughout her extensive career, she accumulated nine Olympic medals (3 silver and 6 bronze) and 14 World Championships medals, including 3 golds. Her incredible longevity and her ability to compete at the highest level for decades make her an athletics icon and a fundamental figure in Jamaica's Olympic history.
