The MHI Vestas V164-9.5MW is a high-capacity offshore wind turbine, known for its massive scale and advanced design features. It boasts a rotor diameter of 164 meters, sweeping an area of 21,124 square meters with its three 80-meter blades. Each blade weighs 35 metric tons and is designed with a structural-shell type, incorporating carbon-fiber sections for enhanced strength. The turbine is equipped with a planetary gearbox and a permanent magnetic generator, operating at a voltage of 66,000 volts. This turbine has a rated power of 9.5 MW, capable of powering approximately 8,300 homes. It features a hub height of up to 140 meters and a nacelle weighing 390 metric tons. The V164-9.5MW is designed to reduce operational and maintenance costs by enabling the use of fewer, larger turbines. It has successfully completed field testing and is available for commercial deployment. The turbine's design includes load-based individual pitch control, enhancing efficiency and reliability in demanding marine environments.
