He grew up in Naugatuck and attended the University of Connecticut, where he began modeling to support himself financially. Bergin's career took off when he replaced Mark Wahlberg as the Calvin Klein underwear model, appearing in notable campaigns alongside Kate Moss. He walked the runways for top designers like Valentino, Giorgio Armani, and Donna Karan. Bergin transitioned into acting, starring as J.D. Darius on the popular series Baywatch and Baywatch: Hawaii. He has also worked as a correspondent for E Entertainment Television and VH1. In addition to his entertainment career, Bergin is involved in philanthropy, supporting D.A.R.E. and AIDS charities. He married makeup artist Joy Tilk in 2004 and has two children. Bergin now works as a real estate agent in Beverly Hills, marking a shift from his earlier modeling and acting pursuits.
