Muhammadu Buhari is a Nigerian politician and former military dictator who has served as the President of Nigeria since 2015. Born on December 17, 1942, in Daura, Katsina State, Nigeria, Buhari grew up in a family of modest means and was raised in a traditional Hausa Muslim household. He received his primary and secondary education in Nigeria before proceeding to the Nigerian Military Training College in 1962, where he graduated as a second lieutenant. Buhari's military career spanned over three decades, during which he held various command positions, including Governor of the North-Eastern State from 1975 to 1976. He was also the Head of State of Nigeria from 1983 to 1985, during which he implemented several economic and political reforms. After his military rule, Buhari returned to civilian life and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2013. He contested for the presidency in 2015 and won, becoming the first Nigerian president to be elected after a military regime.
